Newsletter Month: 1

Elliot - yesterday you turned one month old. On the one hand I can't believe how fast that has gone. On the other - it feels like you have been here much longer than that. It has been amazing to meet you and get to know you. You have such personality and make me laugh multiple times a day. As I look at pictures of your birthday I can't believe how much you have grown already! I know that won't be the last time I say that either. I love listening to your funny noises - when you eat, when you start to dream and when you are getting your diaper changed. You have also recently discovered some new sounds you can make and the other day I think you even scared yourself with a new yelp!

You have become much more awake and alert and are looking at so much stuff. Of course my favorite is when you look right at me and are thinking deeply about something. Are you critiquing my hairdo or asking me to please go take a shower? Smiling has started - though only when you start to dream, it makes me laugh as I wonder what you are dreaming about or what is so funny? It makes me shake my head when you do it while you are still eating and milk comes dripping out of your mouth on to me! What context do you have to dream about? Or are you just dreaming about eating, by far your favorite thing to do?

We went on our first restaurant outing yesterday to Annie's on campus, a favorite of ours and I am sure it will become a favorite place of yours too. We hung out with Matt and Heather, they think you are pretty darn cute and we agree! And you slept the whole time, which was perfect. I am thinking if you could do that every time we go out to eat, that would be great.

Today I left you for a few hours while I ran some errands by myself and left you in the hands of daddy. It was nice to get out of the house and have some time by myself - I don't think I have done that since you arrived. You didn't sleep very long, and woke up pretty upset when you learned your food source was missing. Dad tried his best to make you happy but to no avail. I think he now understands a bit better what it is like to try and console you all-day long. Let's just say he was happy to see me arrive home as were you.

Later in the day we gave you your first bottle to try it out. I know dad wishes that we had all of that sterilized earlier in the day while I was gone. Oh well.

You are so amazing to watch and we both can't wait to see your personality develop more and look forward to when you can walk and talk. Though if you could really hold off on learning the word no, we would really appreciate it. =)

Love,

Mama
