Newsletter Month: 5
Ellliot - today you turned five months old. It has been quite a month for you and quite a month for the world. On January 20 - you and I watched history in the making. Uncle Matty came over and together we watched our new President, Barack Obama sworn in. I realize you won't remember this and will read all about it in school but it was a big day. The history of our country will be divided into before and after that moment. When I was in school - teachers would ask us if we thought anyone different than a white man would become President. We hoped and dreamed and it finally happened. Personally I wish it would have been a woman first =) but we'll discuss my views on that when you are older.
Times are dismal right now - the economy, job loss, people losing their homes, retirements, etc. two wars, other foreign policy messes...it feels heavy and almost impossible to solve. But with this new President, there is hope and change in the air. Just as there is hope and change in you.
President Obama has a lot of work on his hands and the world holding their breath - we all hope the world will be in much better shape as you grow up and begin to make your impact on it. It's an exciting time to be alive!

Whew - now to lighter things! Big things this month! You started daycare and you love it! Our daycare provider is a regular Mary Poppins and you enjoy being there. You come home exhausted from all of the other kids stimulating you so much. You are sitting up with a little help and are watching everything especially all of those little ones as they run past you and bring you toys.

Unfortunetly your first big illness struck this month as well. First your daddy got it, then me and then you. You were quite wiped out, crabby and just miserable. It was a tough week but we made it through and it is great to see you back to your old self.

There is more hair on the top of your head every day. We refer to it as fuzz! You are babbling up a storm and responding when we babble back which is fun. In general you are just a happy guy except when those teeth hurt so much! Hopefully that new tooth will poke through soon.

Love,
Mama
